Family comedy drama series following the antics of Dickens’ character the Artful Dodger, set in 1830s London, starring Billy Jenkins as Dodger and Christopher Eccleston as Fagin, alongside fellow young gang members Ellie-May Sheridan, Aabay Ali, Connor Curren and Mila Lieu. Other cast includes David Threlfall, Alex Kingston, James Fleet, Anita Dobson and Lenny Rush.
Filming for three special episodes (Train, Christmas and Egg) took place between July to September 2022. Extensive sets were built at The Bottle Yard Studios including Fagin’s lair, Bill Sykes’s hovel, the ‘Fiddlers Arms’ pub, a toymaker’s shop, street exteriors, police cells and a Victorian No 10 Downing Street banqueting hall.
For the first special, ‘Train’, filming took place on location at Parkend railway station on the Dean Forest Railway line in Gloucestershire, whilst interiors for a train tunnel and carriage were also created in the The Bottle Yard’s Tank Houses 1 and 4.
Bristol Film Office supported the production team to make use of a number of the city’s period buildings included Bristol Museum & Art Gallery, Blaise Museum and The Georgian House Museum. Street filming also took place at Queens Square, All Saints Lane and Corn Street in Bristol’s Old City. The 150-year-old Clifton College was also used as a location.
