Reboot of the cult gameshow classic, presented by new Maze Master Richard Ayoade.
A new purpose-built maze spanning over 30,000 square feet was built in Spring 2017 in previously un-filmed areas of the Studios, created by original Maze designer James Dillon, with Alex Roberston as Art Director. During construction, physical elements of the Studios’ structure were incorporated into the set, for example the building’s pillars feature in the Industrial Zone.
More than 30,000 people applied to take part in the show, with 15 teams making it through auditions. Producers filmed two shows a day at the Studios during April and May 2017, with more than 130 production staff producing over 100 hours of filming.
The set featured: a completely reinvented Crystal Dome covered with ‘intelligent LED’ lighting frame, newly designed wind system and access for wheelchairs; a newly designed Future Zone with rotating floor; 18 tonnes of sand in the Aztec Zone; 5,600 gallons of water to fill the waterfall and water rooms; 200 candles and 25 flaming torches to light the Medieval Zone; 16,000 sq ft of scenic backdrop; more than 200 plants; and 40 LED panels.
