It was a packed celebration of incredible filmmaking in Bristol and the West – and an exceptionally strong year for the scripted genre – at the 2025 RTS West of England Awards, which took place on Sunday 27th April at Bristol Old Vic Theatre, hosted by comedian Stuart Goldsmith.

Guests included actors Mark Rylance and Sekou Diaby, plus presenters Liz Bonnin, Anna Dimitriadis and Arthur Williams, and architect, designer and presenter George Clarke.

BBC Three comedy drama Boarders won in the Scripted category, sponsored by The Bottle Yard Studios and Bristol Film Office. Judges praised the show’s “real heart, emotional depth and authenticity” and the award was presented to Studio Lambert and the Boarders production team (pictured above) by our Head of Film Laura Aviles.

Sir Mark Rylance (pictured above with presenter Liz Bonnin) received the On Screen Performance Award for his role as Thomas Cromwell in Wolf Hall: The Mirror and the Light, priduced by Company Pictures and Playground Entertainment for BBC One and Masterpiece. Judges commended him for “a standout, composed and stunning performance, which conveyed complex internal emotions whilst maintaining Cromwell’s stoic exterior.” In acepting the award, Rylance spoke about his enjoyment of filming on location in the West of England and at its many beautiful properties.

John Lynch (pictured above) picked up the Cinematography Award for his work on Disney+ hit Rivals produced by Happy Prince, part of ITV Studios. Chloe Wicks also won the Scripted Director Award for her exquisite work on Channel 4 drama Truelove, produced by Clerkenwell Films.

The Andy’s Global Adventures team (pictured above) comprising BBC Studios and Doghouse Post Production, also took home the Children’s Award for the latest series in their long-running CBeebies show.
