In our latest edition of Tenant Spotlight, we meet John Hudson, Director of TR Film & TV Scaffolding Services, an established company that has been serving productions across the South West and Wales for more than 20 years, and a business tenant at The Bottle Yard since the Studios’ early days.
1. Who are you and what do you do?
I am John Hudson, Director of TR Film & TV Scaffolding Services Ltd. We provide scaffolding/rigging services including scaffolding for sets, lighting, stunts etc, working directly with Film, television and production companies in the South West and Wales including Casualty, Poldark, Wolf Hall, Lost Honour, Agatha Raisin, Trollied, Aardman Animations, Bristol Old Vic and many, many more.
2. What do you like about being based at The Bottle Yard Studios?
We moved to the Bottle Yard Studios when they first opened a couple of years ago, as what better place to be than in the hub of production? We are always on hand to enable changes to take effect and help out overcoming any problems that may occur before or during filming.
3. How’s business?
Our first two years of business at the Bottle Yard was beyond our expectations, we had a quiet period at the beginning of the year due to productions pushing back filming until later but business is starting to pick up once again and we hope it continues, with more of the filming industry being made aware of what the Bottle Yard has to offer with its excellent location, facilities and resources we have here on site.
4. What’s your favourite thing about working in film and TV production?
I have been working in the industry for 21 years and enjoy the variety and challenges every production has to offer by finding ways to work around things, overcoming obstacles, timescales and keeping within their budgets. The riggers that we have hold great respect for the challenges they are faced with and are always there to lend a hand and give positive feedback when and if required.
