Trollied debuted on Sky 1 in 2011 showcasing an extensive set built at The Bottle Yard Studios, in the form of a large scale, purpose built replica supermarket. Such was the scope and accuracy of the set, Ian Richardson, manager of Thornbury’s Morrisons supermarket wrote in an article to The Guardian: “It’s set in a fictional supermarket in Warrington called Valco. The set is brilliant: the checkouts look just right, and the aisles are well laid out.” Using the Export Warehouse, the Sky 1 production team used the 1,480sqm / 15,945sqft of space to its full capacity to create the authentic replica. Trollied is directed by Paul Walker, known for his hugely popular hit comedy-drama Shameless.

In 2012, Trollied expanded into areas within the Main Warehouse and built 3 additional smaller sets, and a comprehensive Production Village including dressing rooms, make up and costume areas – available for use by other productions when Trollied are not filming.

The second, third and fourth series, as well as two Christmas specials of Trollied have already been filmed at The Bottle Yard Studios, and pending re-commissioning, more filming will follow. With talented names like Miriam Margolyes, Stephen Tompkinson and Jack Carroll on board for the latest series (which began in November 2014), Trollied looks sure to be a continued success.

Our time-lapse video illustrates the scope, the use of the space and the build structures utilised for Trollied.

The Supermarket set is available for hire by other production companies, by agreement with Roughcut Television. Please contact us for more information.
